David Chichkan (1986–2025) was a Ukrainian artist and anarchist. He was a key figure in the development of the antifascist and punk movements in Ukraine. In his youth, he was a punk and later became part of the S.H.A.R.P. culture.
David took part in anarchist organizations, supported trade unions, and was actively involved in significant actions across the country, including the Ukrainian Maidan revolution, where he marched with anarchist banners.
He died on August 10, 2025, in armed struggle against Russian fascism, on the same lands where Nestor Makhno — a hero in many of his works — once fought.
On the sleeve of his uniform, he wore a patch with the anarchist symbol and the words: “For our freedom and yours.”
One of David’s goals was to show his leftist comrades in the West that Ukrainian antifascists are genuinely fighting against Russia — the main fascist threat — and to counter Kremlin propaganda influencing people in Southern Europe.
His works have been exhibited in galleries and museums in Ukraine and across Europe. With the start of the war, his series was shown in Berlin, Amsterdam, Brussels, Marseille, Valencia, and other cities. In Barcelona, his works were exhibited at Can Vies, Blokes Fantasma, and a CSO in L’Hospitalet.
We will soon publish a commemorative post about him, including his quotes on war, the struggle for freedom, and the promotion of leftist ideas.
